Jhane lives in Padadita with her parents and extended family, including her grandparents, in a household of seven. She walks about two kilometers to school each day and helps with daily chores like cooking and laundry when she gets home. Her family grows chili and vegetables for their own use and sells the surplus to help cover household needs. Her grandfather is in poor health, while her family's school fees have been overdue since May. Jhane is an active member of the Pramuka (Scouts) and dreams of becoming a police officer one day. She hopes a scholarship will help ease her parents' burden.
