We measured the walk to the beach, not the distance
Every listing in Hua Hin says how many metres it is to the sea. Almost none of them mention that the walk crosses a four-lane road with one crossing point.
We started timing the walk instead, in the afternoon, carrying something, because that is the version of the walk we will actually do. Eight hundred metres uphill in that heat is a different proposition from eight hundred metres along a flat promenade.

My rule now is simple: if I would take the car, it is not walking distance, whatever the number says.
